Carbon adsorption has numerous applications in removing pollutants from air or water streams both in the field and in industrial processes however ash reduces the overall activity of activated carbon and reduces the efficiency of reactivation. Black Diamond produces a low ash product from high quality anthracite giving our product a competitive advantage. Activated carbon derived from anthracite retains its structure through increased density as a result of heating.

The use of anthracite as an activated carbon offers certain unique characteristics as compared to other carbon sources. This market is still developing new products and uses for activated carbon derived from anthracite.

The 2 grades of anthracite and calcined antharcite can be processed producing different characteristics.



Our anthracite has an extremely low ash content with higher fixed carbon compared to overseas ultra-high grade anthracite.

Welsh anthracite has an extremely low ash content. The quality of the coal produced at Black Diamond is high grade anthracite. The National Coal Board ranked the coal as “High Grade” 100 anthracite....



Suitable as a carbon additive to blast furnaces and steel by products. UHG normally has a higher fixed carbon content than HG. Naturally occuring UHG will be extracted from the Peacock seam. This is the highest quality anthracite available and is exceptionally hard with a blue lustre....



Heat treated anthracite will have virtually no volitile matter resulting in an almost pure carbon. Black Diamond is capable of generating significant amounts of electricity per annum from methane drainage. Alternatively, the gas generated will be used a heat source to produce gas calcinated anthracite....
